Twelfth Step Within Day: Reaching Out to Support Our Fellowship

Each year on December 12 (12/12), OA members around the world pause to honor Twelfth Step Within Day, a time dedicated to reaching out to those within our Fellowship who may still be struggling with compulsive eating behaviors. This special day reminds us that recovery is not a solo journey—it is a shared path built on compassion, connection, and the strength we offer one another.

The intention of Twelfth Step Within Day is simple but powerful: to extend hope, understanding, and fellowship to members who may feel isolated, discouraged, or disconnected from the program. Whether someone is feeling stuck in their recovery, slipping into old patterns, or simply needing renewed encouragement, this day invites all of us to extend a hand and say, “You are not alone.”

Meetings, intergroups, and service bodies often use this day to host outreach events, share personal stories of recovery, or offer special workshops that focus on unity, service, and healing. But even small, individual actions matter—making a supportive phone call, sending a message to a fellow member, or offering a listening ear can be a powerful expression of service.

Twelfth Step Within Day reminds us that recovery deepens when we give away what has been freely given to us. By connecting with those who still suffer, we strengthen our own program and help nurture a community where every member feels valued, supported, and seen.
